Crossfit Canada – Madlab School of Fitness TM is the first Crossfit affiliate in Canada, the only government sanctioned fitness school of its kind and a world leader in professionalizing the fitness industry.

Crossfit Vancouver was founded in 2004. At the time, it was one of the first five affiliates in the world and the very first Crossfit outside of the U.S. Now there are thousands.

Crossfit is an open source protocol for fitness. It is not a franchise; each affiliate delivers the product in its own "unique" way. How we deliver Crossfit to people is very distinct, we have learned a lot since 2004, and we have done it the hard slow way that is the trademark of excellence.

  • When I first joined CrossFit Vancouver it was at the suggestion of my soccer teammate. The goal was not necessarily to become better at soccer, but that definitely was one of the benefits. I grew stronger, opponents had a harder time moving me off the ball. I could jump higher, going for headers against girls 8-10 inches taller than me. My point is that for many athletes CrossFit is a means of improving their sport of choice, ultimate, cycling, hockey, swimming to name a few. For others CrossFit has become their sport of choice. What I found amazing was that CrossFit gave me the confidence to try many different sports that I balked at BCF (before CrossFit) – ice hockey, swimming, snowboarding, circus (yes I consider circus a sport). I am continuing this trend with a foray into surfing, floor hockey and dodge ball this winter.

So, my question to you, what sport do you still dream of trying? Gymnastics, synchronized swimming, river kayaking? Why? Please post to the comments section.

So, onwards and upwards. I’m sure everyone indulged a wee bit over the holidays, a little Christmas baking here, a little wine and cheese there. It’s time to snap out of the turkey coma and hit up a workout.

Technique: Pick up something heavy! Go for a one rep max deadlift and try your hand with the Atlas stones (the lightest is 135lbs), but be careful putting them down (we don’t need any broken toes)!

    Workout: Helen

    3 rounds for time:

    400m run
    21 kb swings (red/black)
    12 pull-ups

I’ve always wanted to rock climb.

Fifteen years ago I went to an indoor gym and completed some kind of climb. The guy told me I was a natural.

Many a friend that climb have told me I’d be good at it. Just have never made it happen.

I know Corey Jenkins is a climber extraordinaire. Perhaps I’ll get him to take my rookie ass out this summer.

      Great post Kerm.

Climbing is something i’ve been wanting to try for years and years. Just signed up for an intro class. Looking forward to it.

Cycling is something else i’d like to get into…. my background is Italian so I’m hoping I have a knack for it.

Oh oh oh…. and kickboxing too…. used to do that at Fitness World with a personal trainer and loved it. Would be cool to see if i would be any better at it now.

      Happy Holidays everyone!!!

I’ve been thinking about getting into RC Cars. I’ve also had people tell me I’d be a natural at driving an RC car! How cool would it be to pretend to be a racecar driver! I love pretending!

    5. Lars says:

Shiek, those sports are Olympic sports and require a piss test to participate….

Can someone add this workout to the leaderboard?

My vote is for mini golf.

Mareck Bigler

Mareck Bigler travelled all the way from Switzerland to complete our junior apprentice diploma program. He graduated in the spring of 2011 and headed home with the tools to help him open his own affiliate in Switzerland.

Here’s what he has to say:

With a gymnastics and team sports backround, I discovered Crossfit two years ago and it caught my interest right away. I did one year of training by myself, took my level 1 cert, and then headed to Crossfit Vancouver for their apprentice diploma program. …Read More
