Crossfit Canada – Madlab School of Fitness TM is the first Crossfit affiliate in Canada, the only government sanctioned fitness school of its kind and a world leader in professionalizing the fitness industry.

Crossfit Vancouver was founded in 2004. At the time, it was one of the first five affiliates in the world and the very first Crossfit outside of the U.S. Now there are thousands.

Crossfit is an open source protocol for fitness. It is not a franchise; each affiliate delivers the product in its own "unique" way. How we deliver Crossfit to people is very distinct, we have learned a lot since 2004, and we have done it the hard slow way that is the trademark of excellence.

FYI: The iCST-Intro is the pre-requisite to attend the weekly Stretching Classes on Wednesdays at 7-8

Will I learn something new about stretching?

Solo-partial exercises are easy to learn and can be used as daily maintenance.  But your posture and flexibility will improve significantly when working with partners in class, one-on-one, benefiting from assisted stretches. We learn to assist each other in turn of greater results. In this Introduction, we will warm up each muscle group properly before stretching; we will work on the hip flexors (the major shaper of your spinal shape, and a frequent cause of back and neck pain), piriformis  (a muscle that can cause sciatica), the hamstrings, calves, shoulders and a few simple neck exercises, too.

    Is Stretch Therapy like Yoga?

No. The core of Stretch Therapy (ST) is based on the therapeutic effects of Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF). The PNF Contract-Relax approach ensures that a deeper and longer-lasting stretch is attained, making Stretch Therapy far more effective than simply stretching and holding a position.

    How does PNF work?

There are 3 steps to PNF also called Contract -Relax approach:

First the limb is taken into the stretch position
Secondly the muscle being stretched is contracted
Thirdly the muscle is relaxed and re-stretched further into the new stretch position

What should I know before attending the iCocoon Stretch Therapy Intro?

It is recommended to review the principles of stretching safely!

Lucy Kenefick: Graduate of the 'fast track' Junior Apprentice Diploma program

Lucy came to CrossFit Vancouver in the winter of 2012. Originally from Ireland, Lucy was living in Melbourne, Australia when she discovered CrossFit. She loved it, but she wanted to learn more. After doing some research about CrossFit boxes around the world, she soon stumbled across our apprentice program in Vancouver.

Here’s what she said about her three-month experience in Vancouver:

“From the moment I set foot at CrossFit Vancouver, I knew I was in for a very different and special experience.  Even though I was still adjusting to the shock of seeing snow rather than blue skies and sand, I immediately felt at home.

I was greeted with big smiles, eager handshakes, and curious questions, not to mention a crew of impressive athletes, who could knock out handstand push ups like they were hiccups!

One thing that really stood out for me was the ease and efficiency in which things were done.  The relaxed yet focused atmosphere, and the embracing community at CrossFit Vancouver are priceless.

In short, Patty and his charismatic team offer a superior service, both in and outside of the school. I learned so much from them, on both a professional and personal level.”
