Financial Planning - Curt Hillier: “The turtle always wins the race”

image

When I sat down with Curt Hillier, I was overcome by a sense of complete genuineness. So calming and oozing trustworthiness, I immediately felt like I wanted to reveal my deepest darkest secrets to him.

Many of you might not be familiar with Curt, but that’s not because he isn’t around the school much. Au contraire; he is the epitome of commitment. He just normally works out mid-day when the school is calm and quiet.

Curty is another one of the school’s financial advisors, although his approach is much different than Patrick Whibley’s shark-like pursuit. “The turtle always wins the race,” said Curt, who works for Raymond James Ltd.

Curt explained that he takes a holistic approach to financial planning. “I think it’s important to look at the whole person: where they are in life, their goals, their retirement plans. Everyone needs a plan,” he said.

“And people have to modify their expectations to something more realistic, and then be disciplined about it. Sometimes the biggest role I play is protecting people from themselves,” he added.

“The most important thing is just to get going [on your plan],” Curt urges. “You can start out with as little as $50 a month. It’s still satisfying seeing your statement increase every quarter. Just keep it simple and straightforward,” he
said.

One of the keys to success for Curt is to take emotion out of the financial game. “Money is emotional and makes you do things you wouldn’t normally do, so you have to keep clients focused on the big picture, on the long-term plan,”
he said. This slow and steady approach is the perfect balance for the ever-passionate Patterson, who might otherwise be inclined to let emotion dictate his decisions.

Patty has been a client of Curt’s since early 2008, but it’s a two-way street. “It’s been great for me,” said Curt about Patty’s one-on-one CrossFit coaching.

Curt says he loves CrossFit because it’s relatively simple in terms of its theory. “At the end of the day, it works. No one is going to go through that kind of pain and suffering if he isn’t going to see results,” he said. “And I love the community and how everyone cheers each other on. Patty has been so good at creating that vibe.”

The close-knit community is exactly the reason Curt thinks CrossFit is so successful as a product. Quite simply, it isn’t for everyone. “If even more people were drawn to it, it wouldn’t be as good. It attracts people from every walk of life, but personality wise, it attracts a certain type of person. And in the end, the people who stick around are the ones you want to hang out with,” said Curt.

Talk to him for a couple minutes and you’ll discover that Curt is definitely one of these people.

LUCA MATLOCK CITTON - The School’s Lawyer

image

Three and a half years ago, Patty called Luca up with his first of many business problems. "He then showed up at my office a couple days later wearing track pants and a t-shirt (it may have said something obscene on it - I can't recall), looking hungover, telling me about his business problem...It went downhill from there," said Citton.

Massage - Michelle Miguez

image
This is Michelle with her nephew, she is single smile

So I have been holding out on all of you for two years.

My favorite hour of the week (unless I have actually had sex) has been my hippy healing.

I love my massage and the best one I have ever gotten is with my girl Michelle.

I have been blessed. Michelle has always been a beacon of integrity.

She is the real deal:

Hang with her and your life will get better:

Here is what she does: (she really just gives you love)

Massage in all its forms helps to reduce pain, soothe injured muscles, stimulate blood and lymphatic circulation, balance the emotional body and promote deep relaxation. My treatments include all of this which encompasses deep tissue manipulation, movement awareness and energy balancing, all of which improve the structure and function of the body.

My whole approach to healing is working with the human body as a whole; the physical, the mental and the spiritual. I am currently completing the chartered herbalist diploma program at the Dominion Herbal College. I believe in working with the life force and with the integrated whole that the body represents. Any illness is a manifestation of dis-ease within the whole being. To truly heal, one needs to look at the interconnectedness and the dynamic play of all the parts in the whole- the physical, emotional and mental bodies and the enlivening presence of the soul. Herbs are a part of our total ecology and as such lend themselves to us to integrate and heal our physical bodies.

I have a love of herbal remedies that are useful in helping to heal specific ailments safely and most importantly naturally.

Maybe "hippy healing" is not what you need, I understand that. I am a certified massage therapist and I am fine with just giving people what they want in terms of a massage. If you want a beating, I can give you a beating.

If you want the real deal:

If you are open to the full pull: ask me for Reiki.

These treatments are for those who are truly open. Reiki brings one to a deep state of relaxation, falling deep into your sub-conscious, which in turn relaxes the body so the tissues are easier to manipulate.

here is the deal:

$75 per hour (it is worth way more, she is starting her own business)

Stock Market - Patrick Whibley: Genuine Charm

image

When he walks into the gym – this tall, fit, charming, well dressed Epic Party Host – it’s hard not to think he must be the quintessential jock. But talking to him for just five minutes reveals that Patrick ‘Whibs’ Whibley is so much more.

“He comes from a good family. He’s genuinely honest; he genuinely wants to see people get better,” said Patty about Whibley. “And he’s fuckin hilarious. He has so much positive energy.”

Much of this energy is devoted to being a big-time stockbroker/investment advisor. It’s a lifestyle that requires a ton of energy.

“I’m up every morning at 4:30 am, so there’s not a lot of time for sleep. But I love it. It’s my passion. I love everything about it,” said Whibley, who has been working for PI Financial Corp for the last five years. “It’s a lifestyle as opposed to a job. My phone rings from 5:30 am until 9 pm.”

Whibley’s focus is on speculative investment, essentially high-risk investment. This means he deals primarily with newly created public companies (often young mining companies), companies that have at least 200 shareholders.

Although considered high risk, Whibley explains that he mitigates much of the risk by “dealing with sound, experienced professionals.” And with the risk comes huge opportunities. “That’s what gets me up in the morning. Everyday is a chance to make a lot of money,” said Whibley.

Contrary to what you might expect, you don’t need to have a ton of cash to invest in these companies. “My clients range from mom and pops to people with a bit of money, to people with a ton of wealth. Sometimes you can invest in these companies with as little as $500, and the potential for growth is huge,” explained Whibley.

On top of being a stockbroker and a CrossFitter, Whibley is also a huge social networker. He created a network called Market Fusion, whose mission is to fuse relationships in the local business community through social events. (http://www.Market-Fusion.com).

Market Fusion parties give people a chance to not only form mutually beneficial business relationships, but friendships as well. “The parties aren’t too loud, so people can really talk. And you don’t even have to talk about business. It’s just a chance to socialize,” said Whibley. That said, Whibley has had huge business success at Market Fusion gatherings as well, saying that he sometimes generates 50 business leads in one night.

More than anything, Market Fusion allows Whibley to live by his beliefs: Be genuine. “Bottom line, if people like you, they do business with you. No one wants to do business with a straight-laced Point Dexter,” said Whibley.

And Whibley makes it clear that he is certainly not straight-laced and dull. “I wear pink gaunch. I eat ice cream every night. I like to take my clothes off,” Whibley revealed.
