Andy Nutts Hero Day

1) The format for the 2 man/woman event on the 26th of June has changed (Thank Tank, his big blue heart couldn't stand watching someone get picked last).........We are going to spin the bottle and let Nutts decide who the teams are. smile

2) Andy's parents will be there to hand out the Nutts CUP. They are really great people, really fun and dynamic. Come out to support them in the celebration of their son's life.

3) There is a sign up sheet in the gym: This guy died for our country, the least we can do is show respect for his life. If 7 people show up it will be a fucking travesty of all things good.

4) Intoduction to Crossfit for the newbies starts at 11am. Individual competition is at 1pm

5) BBQ kicks off at 2:30pm

6) Party is at 9pm. Bring a single friend. Free drink for both of you if it is a female. smile Andy would have loved that feature. smile

Rowing Seminar and 2 km Indoor Regatta

Date: Saturday, May 15th. 1 pm - 4 pm

Cost: $35 ($25 for CrossFit Vancouver members)

The Day:

1. The Regatta: A 2 km row on the ergometer. We are going to connect the ergs electronically like they did at the BC Sectional competition. This will allow you to see what place you are in and how much behind the leader you are. It will also allow spectators to watch the race on a screen. Like at an indoor rowing regatta, you will compete in your weight class.

- Heavyweight: over 135 lbs. for women and 165 lbs. for men.
- Lightweight: under 135 lbs for women and 165 lbs. for men.

2. Rowing Seminar: I will spend an hour to an hour and a half discussing proper rowing technique, focussing on common mistakes that I have noticed CrossFitters make. We will go over:

1. Body positions
2. Stroke rate
3. Racing Strategies
4. Rhythm, Ratio, Arm speed
5. CrossFit Misconceptions:
(For example: The Drag Factor - CrossFitters often crank the
drag to a 10 when they race, which isn’t ideal).

The goals of the day are to:

1. Help athletes become more efficient rowers: Efficiency on the erg will both improve your 2 km row score, and it will let you to turn the row portion of a workout like Christine into the rest part of the WOD.

2. Give CrossFit coaches new and beneficial coaching cues.

Emilys Rowing Background:

Emily started rowing at UBC in 2004. She rowed there for two years through her undergrad degree and then rowed for another two years through her masters degree at the University of Western Ontario.

In her four years of rowing, she won three Ontario University Championship gold medals, as well as a Gold medal (womens 8) and a national championship banner at the 2009 Canadian University Rowing
Championships.

Super Bowl Party in the LOUNGE - 3pm February 7th

In keeping with our pledge for more social events, we are throwing a Super Bowl party up in the lounge.

Leather chairs, couches, bar stools, 2 big screen TV's, kegs, appy's and great company. This is where all your coaches and apprentices will be on Super Bowl Sunday.

Come Join us. We have 32 seats and some standing room, but we have to limit numbers to no more than 50

Full details will be released "in house", a sign up sheet and tickets will be placed on the cork board.

MadLab Hopper November 7th

imageNovember 7, 2009 CrossFit Vancouver will be hosting the first MadLab Hopper...How Mad are You?

Come see where you fit in with affiliates from the North West Region hosted at the School of Fitness. Experience a full day involving weights, food, prizes and of course BEER. The competition is November 7, 2009 and will consist of 3 15minute workouts randomly selected (1 big man, 1 little man and 1 mixed), to equalize everyone's strengths and weaknesses. There is a cap of 100 competitors so sign up before you miss out on this opportunity.

Sponsorship and involvement includes lululemon athletica, Body Energy Club, Nutrition House, Dr. Richard Cleland (chiropractor), and many others.

This day is to celebrate the broader community and ties within all the groups as we have helped each other grow and develop where we are today. These groups are the foundation of our school and we felt this was the best way to honour them.
