• Why we became a Vocational School:

    image

CrossFit Vancouver became a vocational school of fitness for a reason. Our goal is to professionalize the fitness industry. Our business model looks similar to that of an engineering or law firm.

Our ultimate vision for ourselves is to have a team of 20, 30, or 40 business partners, where the senior coaches earn their way to become shareholders in the company. They earn respectable livings, and eventually they can sell both their knowledge and their shares to the next generation, leaving a legacy and creating true stability in the fitness industry.

Today, we are already well on our way. Our school is made up of a team of people who are experts in different areas of CrossFit, so our apprentices coaches learn from the best. Currently, our top coaches make more then $80,000 a year.

Our school’s apprentice programs are not just about learning the movements. CrossFit headquarters are the experts in teaching people how to become better CrossFitters. We’re here to teach you the business of CrossFit. Our diploma programs will help you become a successful coach and CrossFit affiliate owner, whether you’re a one man show, or you you want a team of 20 people.

  • Picture this in your mind’s eye:

Me and you decide we are going to open up a McDonalds, in a third world country where no one has even seen a burger or indulged in some tasty fries.

All we have to do is attend a 2 day certification (with 50 other hopefuls) for $1,000, to lean about burgers, fries, cokes, sunday’s etc. Then we pay McDonalds HQ $3,000 a year for the right to use the name and bam we are in business.

We find a suitable space, buy all the equipment we need, put up the sign over the door and voila the money rolls in. Except…… we have no idea how to run the business, there are no franchise “how to sheets”, we have to figure it all out from the ground up, and there are essentially no rules or quality control on how we bring these quarter pounders to market…… There a lot of ways to go about this. ☺

This is essentially what happens to every Crossfit opened around the world. This is not a criticism of Crossfit HQ and how they run their organization, this is just simply how the system works. It has always operated as a free market animal following the theory that the more baby sea turtles hatched, the more will make it to sea, the more will grow up strong and self sufficient.

The Catch: there is bound to be mucho carnage along the way.

Mike Fandrey salutes CrossFit Vancouver

Mike Fandrey, along with Tom Smith, are the owners of CrossFit Rocky Point in Coquitlam, B.C.

Fandrey has been CrossFitting for a while now. He first opened up a tiny four hundred square foot garage gym in Maple Ridge. Before opening his doors of his 3,000 square foot facility in Coquitlam, Fandrey spent a good deal of time consulting with CrossFit Vancouver.

“This played an integral role in the early development of Rocky Point CrossFit,” said Fandrey. “We still use CrossFit Vancouver’s fundamentals program to train all of our new clients before they head into group classes,” said Fandrey, whose box has more than 150 members today.

He credits the business mentorship program at CrossFit Vancouver as having helped him grow as quickly and as smoothly as he has. “The program is advantageous to anyone wanting to open an affiliate of his own,” he said.
